Family awakened to find half-naked man in bed with them
A woman says she woke up to find a man lying on top of her four-year-old granddaughter. Now police are trying to track that man down.
The incident happened in north Houston, at a home on Apache at Helmers. The family says they’ve actually had the same experience twice in just a matter of weeks. A man walked into the house and got into bed with a family as they were sleeping.
Gracie Chavez says the man crept in through an unlocked back door, then walked into her bedroom. Chavez was asleep with her husband. Also asleep in the bed was Chavez’s four-year-old granddaughter, and her grandson.
Chavez says she was awakened by her granddaughter at about 4am. The girl said something was on her. That’s when Chavez saw a man in the bed with his pants around his ankles. He was lying between the two children. Chavez says they were shocked and chased the man as he ran off.
She said, “My husband jumped out of the bed and he went to chase him. He told him he was going to kill him this time, because this incident happened once before, approximately April 1. We believe it’s the same man again. I believe he lives in the area. When I got back to the house my daughter and my husband took off in the car, and they went looking for him in the neighborhood. The guy was barefoot, with no shirt, wearing blue jean pants.”
Chavez called police, and the girl was taken by ambulance to Texas Children’s Hospital. Chavez says it has been determined the child was not sexually assaulted, and there was no sexual assault the first time it happened.
The family is extremely frightened by the whole situation and the possibility of it happening again. Family members called police each time, and Houston police say they are investigating the case.
