Woman Allegedly Attacks Son With Bat, Knife, SUV

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Police said a Fort Piece woman hit her 16-year-old son with a baseball bat and then tried to run over him with her SUV.

Jacleda Ghent was angry because her son had gotten in trouble earlier Monday. Police said she found her son at his grandmother’s house, accused him of lying and then grabbed a bat from her SUV. The teen told police that he blocked his mother’s swings and hit her in the face.

Police said Ghent then attacked her son with a pocket knife and he threw a pot of water at her. The teen tried to get away on his bicycle, but police said the woman hit him with her Ford Expedition.

Paramedics took the teen to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

Ghent was charged with aggravated battery with bodily harm, cruelty toward a child, criminal mischief and three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She remained in jail, Wednesday, on $325,250 bond.
